Example of photos in 3D

As promised last week, here's an example of a 3D Walkthrough with photos: click to view in a new window. This was produced for Charles Lawson, based in Oxfordshire and is one of many 3Ds with photos that have been ordered since we launched the feature last week.

As always, we're keen to hear your views so please fill in the Contact Us form if you have any comments.

Photographs in 3D Walkthroughs

If you've ordered a 3D Walkthrough in the last few days, you will have noticed that we've updated the ordering process and added some new screens. Following customer feedback, our main focus at present is actually on new fixture and furnishing styles. However two smaller projects have come to fruition early.

Firstly, the system now asks whether the property has its own external entrance door, like a house, or whether the main door is actually a door onto a communal hallway, like most flats. This enables the Walkthrough to display the external view of the property more appropriately, skipping the "spinning" section at the beginning for flats.

On the next page, you now have the opportunity to upload photographs which will be incorporated into the 3D Walkthrough itself, as still images inserted at appropriate points in the video. For each photograph, you can specify a caption to appear with it (e.g. 'Living Room'), and also where it was taken. For houses, you can also say from which angle the exterior shots were taken from and they will appear at the corresponding point when the camera rotates around the property at the beginning.

There's no limit to the number of photos you can include, and where the interior of a property is well presented a combination of exterior and interior photos works well.

We'll carefully fine-tune this new feature over the next week or so, further improving timing of when the photos appear. Naturally we would be delighted to hear any feedback you have -- there's already an impressive number of Walkthroughs live with photos and we'll link to some of the best next week.

Office move

We're writing this blog entry from Metropix's new office, high up on the 5th floor in the heart of London's Soho district. We love it, although it'll be a few weeks before Brian gets over climbing ten flights of stairs every day!

Due to the office move, our mailing address has also changed and is now:

Metropix
Gainsborough House
81 Oxford Street
London

The week's almost at an end but before we go, we'll be updating with a new blog entry on the improvements to 3D Walkthroughs that have been released in the last few days.

New video

We've had a new video produced to help you promote 3D Walkthroughs to your vendors. Complete with music and a voiceover by a BBC announcer no less, it's the best way to explain the benefits of a 3D Walkthrough.

To see the video, please visit our updated 3D Walkthroughs page.

There are lots of ways to use this video to your advantage. A quick way to give your own web site an update would be to include the video there -- we've made that very easy to do and the instructions are in the 'Publicity Materials' section of the 3D Walkthroughs page. A web designer is not likely to charge more than half an hour of their time to add the video to your site.

We can even provide copies of the video on CD or DVD ready to play on a laptop or domestic DVD player, and for large volumes we can customise the video with your own logo. If you'd like to explore these options with us, please get in touch for more information.
